Many people postpone the start of yoga practice because they are afraid that they will not meet some predetermined norms. Meanwhile, to get started, all you need to do is … regularly stand on the mat and listen to the signals coming from our body and interior!
Yoga is for all those who want to open themselves to its benefits. There is no “better” or “worse” practice. It does not matter whether you start your yoga adventure in organized classes or from practising yoga at home.
It’s important that you take the first step.

Benefits of practice will appear relatively quickly if you practice every day, even after a few minutes.
And this is what yoga practice at home allows.
Standing on the mat regularly is the key to achieving and maintaining body, soul and mental hygiene.
If you exercise for an hour and a half at the club, but only twice a week, then these benefits will come later. Not to mention that entering higher levels of yogic advancement, practice at home becomes mandatory. This is what happens during most teacher training courses.

If you are interested in a deeper experience of yoga practice and use it for self-knowledge and discovering your True Nature, then home practice creates perfect conditions for it.
It will be easier for you to observe and feel yourself when you are not distracted by the group and do not take care of comparing yourself with others.

Yoga is about feeling good.
During classes in the studio, we often forget about it, especially when we want to prove by the force that we can do a given position “just like others”.
Even if it causes us great discomfort.
Also, at home, you can decide for yourself how long you want to stay in the asana, which one to do and how much time you want to devote to it. Among your own four walls, you can listen to your needs, choose the kind of warm-up, arrange your practice and indulge in selected meditation.

To practice, you also don’t have to buy yoga studio admission passes and adapt your classes to your daily schedule.
At home, wanting to stand on the mat … you just unfold it and indulge in yoga. This also increases the likelihood that you will persevere in regular practice.
How to start yoga at home?

I have prepared some rules for you that will support you at the beginning of this road. Thanks to them, daily unfolding the mat at home will soon get into your habit.
1. Be forgiving yourself
Treat yourself with forgiveness and respect at the very beginning.
Just as a beginner should not start training from a half marathon, so give yourself and your body time.
Remember that it should gradually get used to the challenges posed by practice. Therefore, you do not have to immediately go to a 45-minute intense yoga session right after waking up (although of course you can;)).
At first, five minutes of sitting still or meditating is all you need.
After such a time you will see a huge difference in the quality of your day.
In turn, if you are convinced that only fit and slim people can do yoga, get rid of it as soon as possible. T
as if you were saying that you have to be strong to start lifting weights – no one was born that way.
Start here and now with what you have. Not tomorrow, not in two days. You have absolutely nothing to lose! What can you gain? Stamina, strength, balance and … much more.
2. Find your place
If you don’t have your favourite space yet, or you have never thought about it – it’s time to find it!
Involve your mindfulness and intuition for this task.
Make a small round of your home and listen to your interior. Stop where you feel happy and relaxed. It can be a living room, but it might as well be your choice, for example … in the kitchen.
Therefore, for your good, get rid of prejudices and expectations, just let your body and spirit speak.
Once you find your place, you can decorate it with flowers, candles or incense. A permanent place of practice will help you maintain regularity.
Once you develop the habit of appearing on the mat every day, try experimenting without fear – take it with you to the forest, to the beach, to the park or garden.

3. Choose the best time for you
In yoga, the time when you stand on the mat is also extremely important. Choose the time when you have enough time and you know that nothing will distract you.
And then just … practice every day.
Remember, however, that one day break per week is advisable. Also, keep in mind that regularity is extremely important for yoga. Therefore, be disciplined. Set an alarm clock for the time of your choice and try not to leave any sessions. Each time set a specific goal. It can be, for example, 5, 10 or maybe 20 minutes on a mat. You will see that before you know it, practice will become your favourite point of the day.
4. Take advantage of the support of the yogi community
Practice at home may seem to deprive you of the supportive power of group yoga.

It is a space where you can ask questions related to practice, find support or simply exchange experiences with other members of the community. It currently associates over 2,000 people. 5. Read and absorb knowledge
Remember that yoga is not only a set of physical exercises.
It is primarily a practise aimed at supporting and strengthening your spirit. It has many dimensions, which include elements of stretching, meditation and breathing. But that’s just a small part of what yoga has to offer. To better understand and understand the rules that govern it, it is worth exploring its several thousand years of tradition, history and philosophy. The Internet gives you enormous possibilities for free education on the subject.
6. Find time for yourself
Many yogis consider outward activities as the most effective.
Then everyone is focused on practice that the outside world does not distract. The truth is, however, that with a little firmness and good communication with the environment, you can treat yourself to such a yogi camp … without leaving your home.
Take a day or two off (or clear the weekend schedule), inform your roommates or family about your intentions … and plunge into silence.
Practice several times a day, meditate and immerse yourself in yourself. Listen to what your body and mind have to convey to you. If this arrangement is difficult to negotiate, spend half a day on your “yogi camp” or even just a few hours on the weekend.
7. Too many times, art …
If you didn’t get into the rhythm of regular practice the first time … keep trying!

It takes time to build strong foundations, so don’t worry about small setbacks.
When you have a “moment” break – start again.

8. Go to the destination in small steps
From the perspective of the availability of time, it is better to enter the mat only for 10-15 minutes, but for example, 2-3 times a day, than wait until you can organize a full hour to practice.
Be ambitious and full of good intentions, but at the same time realistic – if you know you won’t find the hour this week, limit yourself to 15 minutes. Stop putting off yourself and yoga for later. Start exercising at home today!
